Capturing the flag is a common mode seen in first-person shooters. It is a game in which the object is for each team to retrieve the opponent's flag and return it to their own base. The first side that accomplishes this a certain number of times, or scores the most captures within a designated period of time, wins. Points are gained by holding on to the flag as long as possible and killing the other players. Points are lost by killing somebody who does not have the flag. No points are gained by killing the flag carrier. The game is timed, and whoever has the most points at the end is the winner. To make the game more thrilling, players can shoot, freeze, burn, and blow up their opponents if they get in the way of stealing the flag.
